APMP’s second annual Women’s Virtual Summit is August 4th! It’s your opportunity to learn about the most pressing, current, and emerging issues for professional women and how you can be an advocate and ally of women in business.

We had an opportunity to sit down with Shanitra Davis-Howard, presenter and APMP National Capital Area (NCA) member, to talk about what they’re excited about, what to expect from their session and how APMP is helping them achieve their professional goals.

Thank you for joining us, Shanitra! What are you most excited about for women in the industry right now?

I am excited about all the opportunities that are being made available to women. For so long the proposal industry was male dominant, but more women are participating and becoming such forces. We have learned how to share the stage and have our own skills showcased in many ways.

What is your most powerful lesson learned?

Never stop being a student. The minute you become what you think is the most knowledgeable person in the room is the moment you stop being teachable. There is ALWAYS an opportunity for growth and we need to be receptive when it’s presented to us.

What do you want people to take away from your session?

That we need to do away with some of the stigmas and biases that are associated with women in general. It starts with us having conversations and not taking offense all the time when someone tells us something we don’t want to hear. We don’t always need to agree, but we should be respectful of our differences.

How do APMP and APMP NCA help you achieve your goals?

By giving me a platform for both speaking and learning. The networking and relationships we build are priceless. APMP gives us the ability to connect all over the world, while APMP NCA keeps us involved locally. I love to travel, but having homegrown talent is the best. The NCA is a plethora of knowledge and resources at our fingertips; what’s not to love?
